Fond Farewell to SSHMP Archivist Candace Ming

Written by Sabrina Craig on 06.04.2019

With mixed emotions, we’re sharing the news that SSHMP’s Archivist and Project Manager Candace Ming has accepted a position as Media Conservator and Digitization Specialist at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. We’re delighted for Candace as she joins the ranks of this preeminent institution, and excited that the Museum will benefit from her many talents!

Since joining the SSHMP in 2015, Candace has made invaluable contributions — developing our digital archive and catalog, training students in film handling and digitization, sharing the Project’s work to audiences across the country, and overseeing all of the Project’s administrative and legal details during a period of tremendous growth. She’s been a welcoming presence for our home movie donors, a thoughtful collaborator with partners on and off campus, and a key spokesperson at our public events. Candace’s ability to balance the highest archival and technical standards, with genuine care for the community members and histories the films represent, will be missed most of all. We wish her all the best as she moves into her new role, and look forward to future collaborations.

Please join us in congratulating Candace and wishing her continued success at the Smithsonian!
